The Doctoral School of Historical and Cultural Studies offers a vibrant, supportive, and forward-looking environment that enables its fellows to conduct research at the highest level, to make a lasting impact on both academic and societal debates through their work, and to actively develop their careers within and beyond academia.

The DSHCS offers a quality-assured doctoral program and a diverse, interdisciplinary range of courses that integrates different epistemological, theoretical, and methodological approaches.

Intensive and Individual Supervision and Counselling
A central element is the intensive and individualized supervision of dissertation projects by internationally recognized scholars, often within the framework of team supervision and/or with the support of a Thesis Advisory Committee. In addition, the DSHCS offers guidance on all matters related to the doctoral program, funding opportunities, and career issues, and provides support in challenging situations.

Fellows can apply for varous funding schemes offered by the DSHCS for research activities, mobility, and academic exchange, enabling them to actively participate in the international scientific community.

The DSHCS offers its Felows various opportunities for networking through student initiatives, regular social events, funding for events, as well as interdisciplinary exchange formats.

Special attention is given to the visibility of Fellows and their dissertation projects. The DSHCS supports this not only by funding participation in international conferences and publications, but also by awarding a prestigious early-career prize, offering its own science communication formats, and promoting fellows through its social media channels.
