Participants of two-day conference will examine the Habsburg Monarchy in the context of the global colonial system – a topic that is gaining increasing importance in international research and public discourse. Experts from various countries will discuss social, economic, military, and cultural aspects of Austria-Hungary's colonial past. The conference, organized by members of the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna in cooperation with the Collegium Hungaricum Vienna, aims to provide new impetus for European research on colonialism, strengthen interdisciplinary networks, and open up perspectives on the complex interweaving of the dual monarchy with imperial structures. Furthermore, it will offer doctoral students from various countries an opportunity to present and discuss their research projects to an expert audience. An accompanying volume of selected conference contributions is also in preparation.
